Dribble the ball correctly. Proper dribbling technique involves use of the fingertips, not the palm of the hand. Using your fingertips provides you with more control. The core muscles are the hips, lower back muscles and the abdominal muscles. Core muscles are the connectors between arms and legs. If the core muscles are weak, basketball performance will suffer. If your son or daughter wants to play high school basketball, they need to work on core muscle training. Show them how to exercise their hips, lower back and abs. Stronger core muscles will help them be more resistant and allow them to develop many different athletic abilities. Strong core muscles help you with many movements associated with basketball.

Practicing with your weak hand will help to make you a better dribbler. By being able to easily dribble with two hands rather than one, you have a huge advantage over your defenders. Immobilize your dominant hand by tying it behind your back, then practice using your other hand for everything. Very soon, you will develop dribbling skills with the hand you considered weak.

Be sure you're doing the right kinds of exercises off the court to help you on it. Running, both sprints and long distance, can help your game. Build up your core muscles and the strength in your forearms. If you can develop your confidence through off-court exercise, this can even help your shooting.
